General Course Expectations

For the 670 class, please make sure to do all the secondary reading ahead of time to ensure a lively and thoughtful discussion. Also, it is very easy to unwittingly dominate a conversation, so please be aware of how much "space" or "air time" you are taking up, especially if you have prior experience speaking Latin. Speaking in Latin is new to many participants and can be intimidating, so please allow sufficient time for participants to finish their thoughts before jumping in.

We also ask that you make every effort to attend all regular class sessions and as many “elegenda” sessions as possible, even if you are auditing. If you are not able to attend a class session, alert the instructor as soon as possible. Students for credit need to complete at least 35 total contact hours. 24 of these are covered by your regularly scheduled class sessions and the daily congressus omnium. The remaining 11 contact hours, at least six must come from the afternoon “elegenda,” and the remaining 5 are complete free choice (Elegenda Pomeridiana, Hora Otiosa, or Vespera).

Auditors are not required to create an end project/product, but are welcome to submit one to the instructors for feedback.

Please complete the evaluation at the end of the course as this feedback will help us create a better Conventiculum Bostoniense for future years and iterations of the courses.

All participants are expected to abide by the Code of Conduct, which can be found here. Participants, who fail to abide by the Code of Conduct, may receive a written or verbal warning or, in the most serious cases, may be asked to leave the session, at the discretion of the organizers.

Further concerns can be addressed directly to the University of Massachusetts Boston.
